You know, I never got to play spelljammer, but I had two of the boxed sets, some adventures, and at least one of the old 'monstrous compendium' inserts for it. I'm hoping this time, i'll get to play it. I never really saw the 'sillyness' of spelljammer until much later in life [like, the giant hamsters and stuff]. When I read the books, it came across as a combination of star wars and pirates to me. It really blew me away back in the day.I haven't yet hit the 'nightmarish drag' in 3.5, but then again my highest level character was a 5th level monk. He sure did whiff a lot though!I'm not playing right now for various reasons; I may play in the summer. Now that 4E is out though, that 'factotum' [sp] class from dungeonscape looks like it's got a little 4E design behind it. I wonder what else in 3.5 was a preview?I was surprised, but that's where the similarities end.I didn't start playing 3.x until the middle of 2006, I think. Dude, I was like a TOTAL 2E holdout. Oddly, what got me into 3.x was neverwinter nights, then years later I flipped through the 3.5 core books at a local bookstore, and saw a lot of mechanics that were up my alley. I really liked feats and skills in 3.xI kinda agree with you; i'd like to hear more about your thoughts on this.
