Message: <blockquote data-quote="Geek-Zilla" data-source="post: 4214124" data-attributes="member: 60818">So last night I finally got a chance to play a little 4E.   Now in all honesty, I've been pretty much sold on 4E with all the information provided by the fine membership here at En World, but my decision had to pass one more test.....the wife.I think I should provide a bit of back story.  A few years ago I purchased a video game to tide me over until DDO was released.  I was impressed with the ease of game play and the artistic look of the game, so I asked the wife (then girlfriend) to sit down and check it out...of course I am referring to World of Warcraft.  The wife was resistant and would say things like "Only pasty pale people play video games.", but I would not give up.  I finally manage to convince her to sit down in front of my PC, and she proceeded to make a toon.  I stayed with her for a few minutes helping her get familiar with the noob zone, then left her alone...6 hours later she's in a guild and asks when she can get her own PC and WoW account.  Needless to say at that moment I felt like Senator Palpatine tempting Anakin Skywalker  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" /> .Now I've always know she had possessed the geek-gene.  She reads fantasy novels, digs Star Wars and LOTR, she even played some Shadowrun in her college days.  She is currently an officer in her WoW guild, and raids regularly 10 and 25 man content.  When it came time for a wedding anniversary gift...she wanted a Pink Nintedo DS.  YES....feel the power of the Dark Side, let it flow through you!!!!A couple weeks ago I mention to her about the 4E Demo at a LGS, and we go.  Unfortunately, the person who was going to run the game was unavailable to show up for personal reasons, and the store staff says there will be another demo in two weeks.  I take this opportunity to feed the beast within her with a couple WoW In-Game Trading Cards (King Mukla and Papa Hummel's Old-Fashion Pet Biscuit) and a set of dice (which she picked out....because they matched her shoes).  MUUUHAHA!!!!  Your fall to the Dark Side is almost complete, young Skywalker!So as I stated earlier, we were finally able to play some 4E last night.  There were seven of us (not including the DM); my wife and I, another husband and wife couple, two other gentlemen (Dude 1 and Dude 2), and Mr. Surly (not his real name....just his attitude).  It seems Mr. Surly was upset because he was unable to play Warmachine because of the Yu-Gi-Oh tourney going on.  Anyway, the DM shows up, and the module is Escape from Sembia.  The DM does a pretty good job giving a quick run down of the rules and player actions, and proceeds to randomly pass out the character sheets.  I get the Paladin, my wife get the Warlock, Other Husband draws the Fighter, Dude 1 is the Ranger, and Dude 2 the Wizard.  Other Wife just wants to watch at this time, so Mr. Surly gets the Cleric (my Spidey sensing are tingling...this may be a rough one).We proceed with the first encounter, which is a relief to my wife, since that's when Dude 2 appeared to make his saving throw against "Boobs of Mesmerization" (an affliction that I myself sometimes fall prey to...DAMN the glory that is the female anatomy).  The Fighter charges the guards and we get to see some of the dwarf racial abilities in action (Stand Your Ground FTW).  The Wizard misses with Magic Missile...which immediately prompted comments such as:  Where are the Cheetos?  Can I have some Mountain Dew?  Are there any chicks?  Roll to see if I'm getting drunk?  The Ranger does a nice job with his Hunter's Quarry and Careful Attack (Striker can put out some nice damage).  The Warlock also gets in the fray with her Eldritch Blast and Warlock Curse.  The only one missing is the Cleric...Mr. Surly has decided that fighting is a bad idea and proceeds to strike up a conversation with the town folk.  So it appears that the Paladin has to forget fighting and pick up healing the Fighter.Long story short...the fight did not end well.  The Wizard probably "saved the day" with casting Sleep, but one guard made his saving throw and my Paladin did not.  The Other Couple had to leave and get their kids from the sitter, and my wife was getting hungry for Denny's...so we thanked the DM and everyone else for a chance to check out the new rules and called it a night.So....final thoughts?  I knew I was going to like it.  Dude 1 brought up some interesting questions about marking and whether their effects stack or not (BIG thank you for letting the wife and I borrow some dice).  Dude 2 seemed impressed with the game, and in speaking with him in the parking lot, he has a lot of interest in DDI, as his gaming group has spread to the winds so the Game Table might be for him.  The Other Couple seemed to like the new rules.  And my wife's comments?  It was fun, but it seemed to take too long.  We both agreed this was probably due to playing the rules for the first time, and the amount of questions we had as to what we could and couldn't do.The wife has put her stamp of approval on our future purchase of 4E, and looks forward to making her female dwarf rogue (Yes.....Arise Darth Vader!!!!).  Oh...and if anyone from WoTC reads this, my wife has a message for you:  MOAR FEMALE DWARF MINIS PL0X  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f60e.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":cool:" title="Cool    :cool:"  data-smilie="6"data-shortname=":cool:" /></blockquote>
