D&D 4E 4E - The Latest Herold

I saw this this morning in the DTRPG newsletter and I couldn't help myself:

WOTC'S 3.0 & 3.5 TITLES AT 35% OFF

From now until July 31, DriveThruRPG and Wizards of the Coast are offering all Dungeons & Dragons 3.0 and 3.5 titles, as well as d20 Modern e-books at 35% off their regularly listed price. You can find these great books at http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?cPath=159&SRC=newsletter.

This clearly is only the latest herold of the coming 4th Edition. Obviously, WotC is trying to offload their excessive stock of PDF books before they are obselete. They never offer they books for less and certainly not their PDFs. I pay close attenction to every action that WotC makes, and they will discount their print products before they discount their PDFs. This is proof that WotC is trying to not only change role playing as we know it but also put their competition out of business, end the SRD, and heaven forbid, induce scurvy into the gaming community.

That's not true. They have had sales before at DriveThruRPG on the WotC PDFs (and at least one after the merger with RPGNow - here's the info ).

Also note that the 3E products haven't a price reduction even though that is an earlier edition.

Some people will believe you. Really.

Good point. But I mean I did talk about "excessive stock of PDF books," talked about how WotC is trying to induce scurvy into the gaming population, and labeled the thread as humor. I hope that it's obvious that I was being silly.

But then again, some people believe an article written in The Onion about Harry Potter promoting satanism as being true.

I believe everything, but I don't believe you :D :p

Seriously though, I think something is afoot. You start to take back all your rights, (dragon, Dungeon, Dragonlance, and a few others), you go into a new digital format, you start selling off current product, something is coming. It is also about the right tame for them to make a change to reprint everything they already have with slightly different rules so people will buy them and they can make more money onthe same stuff.

I don't really like to get into the 4e debate, but even I can see something is coming.

Stock up on citrus fruit as a defense. Now! Go, Go Go. Put down the mountain dew, chips, and pizza and get yourself some real fruits and vegetables.

Ah, forget it, they've already won.

Or maybe, WOTC has listened to the complaints of consumers about them offering their PDFs at the same price of print products and they finally have acted on reducing their cost of their PDF products to put the price differential more in line with, well.....everyone else on DriveThru. ;)
