On the Internet It's Always April 1st For D&D 4e the tiles will be done away with. Instead Wizards will sell scenary that will work with the new miniatures rules. Said rules replacing spaces etc. with movement by use of rulers and line of sight rules using fine thread. In addition attacks of opportunity will involve reflex saves with the DC set by what the subject is doing at the time. On guard and otherwise unoccupied for example, DC 5. Hard pressed in combat and sorely wounded, DC 30. In addition facing will be reintroduced and negating flanking will also require a successful reflex save. Base character classes will be reduced to four; Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, and Wizard. Characters will have Vocations or Careers. Thus the Ranger will be a Figher Vocation with Rogue skills and some Clerical abilities. A Scholar will be a Wizard Vocation minus spells and magical abilities with Clerical skills and an emphasis on research and study. The default setting will be designed using an updated version of the 2e World Builder's Guidebook and feature guidelines for economics, diplomacy, politics and war in D&D, with magical influence factored in. 4e monsters will be included according to where they live. There will be a separate book on magic, including adventuring, military, daily life, and political magic among many other types. D&D 4e will come in three volumes. A rule book for players and DMs, plus the aforementioned magic and setting books. The magic and setting books will have supplements as time goes by. But not the rule book. If the rule bok needs expansion in any manner a new edition will be produced. Naturally the rule book will be the largest tome of the three. The game will come with a special book rack much like those used for encyclopedias, with space for the three books and any supplements. As an option D&D 4e will come as a series of PDFs, one chapter per file. POD will be offered for said files at a reasonable price.
