"5 Reasons Your Kids Should Play Dungeons and Dragons."

Negative Zero

First Post
if you don't read the daily web comic at pvponline.com, you really should. but even if you don't, you might find this particular rant interesting. (there's even another one about our favourite psycho, Jack Chic, if you can stand another one of those :p)

of course, this is the prverbial, Preaching to the Choir, but i thought it was cool enuff to share.

"TSR, the company that has produced Dungeons and Dragons for the last 25 years is still going strong and making new D&D products as we speak."

I can't decide what comment to make about that. I think we should all just smirk giggle and point at our computer screens, as is the customary form of mockery in our culture.

(Edit: He still managed to get a working link to wizards.com going for him... So apparently he can handle a search engine, he just isn't entirely up-to-speed on interpreting the results.)

Well, give him some credit, that is one of the earliest rants he's written, several years ago, in fact. Plus he hasn't been that active in DnD lately. Offhand, I'd say it's excusable.

There was no date on it, but given the link to wizards and the fact that pvp isn't that old, that I know, I assumed it was post d20. Plus, "the last 25 years" part implies what, 1999, at the earliest?

In any case, no, it's not a fundamental flaw, and doesn't invalidate his points or anything. Just wanted to snipe it while it was there. :p

FWIW, Scott started writing PvP back in 1998 iirc. I'm not sure when the rant was written but I remember reading it years ago. I *think* he may well have written that before the release of 3e. (3e released Fall 2000, wasn't it?). Scott mentioned on his site at one point that he plays D&D in a regular gaming group, though that may have changed recently.

OT, PVP is very probably the best webstrip out there and one of the funniest comic strips in ANY medium. Scott Kurtz is also a heckuva nice guy in person.

PS - Slightly back On Topic: check out this week of archived strips for the infamous PVP D&D "Ale & Whores" storyline. :D
