He had the 4E DS book but was more interested in the original. During the D&D Dark Ages (2011 or so to 5E launch) I was also playing AD&D, B/X and clones. Since 5E landed I have only played AD&D (1E) a few times and the clones as one offs or as a short run mostly due to what players want to play. I recruited OSR players from 3E and Pathfinder players. Social media is also starting to pick up locally with organised D&D and AL has started. I talk to them and there are a few surprises when I say I have AD&D and still run it on occasion. The locals seem to be playing 5E but want to try the classics (they own on PDF) with AD&D rules not 5E conversions of those rules. There have been some interesting conversations I have had with various people in regards to things like OSR multiclassing, alignment restrictions, or the cartoons in the 1E DMG- +2 back scratchers. TSR era boxed sets also tend to go down well when I pull one out. Old to them is the 3.0 FRCS, pull out a TSR boxed set from the 90's or 80's and they definitely seem interested.  So yeah for the 1st time since 1999-2001 D&D seems to be growing locally, there used to be organized play at the local university but it kind of dies out/got replaced with LARPing due to a lack of organisation. Looks like I will be picking up another player or 2 as well depending on the day I set a new game but I seem to be more experienced DM than most of the new breed and I run a more structured game than most and just outright boot out the CN type snowflake players which seem to be causing some problems. 3/5 players also want to try OD&D as well, the other 2 will play it.</blockquote>
