Here in a couple of months, my DM will be starting a new campaign. I'm psyched because I'm going to be playing the party wizard, and I've been a fan of bladesingers since AD&D 2E. That said, I'm debating backgrounds. The DM's backstory for the setting: there was a recent war where humans basically went on a campaign against virtually every other demi-human race in the world (elves, drarves, etc.), and lost. We have one variant human character being planned, and I think a half-elf, at least that I'm aware of aside from my own moon elf and the moon elf paladin (and we're considering some sort of tie-in to one another -- he's likely going Noble for his background, being paladin). My idea was that my character was sorta like an undercover agent, sorta like a faction agent, in that she blended in with folks and passed along information. But Criminal/Spy, even though it sounds perfect for this, doesn't really work because it's Deception and Stealth for skill proficiencies. Part of me really wants to have Acrobatics as a skill proficiency, so that I can have the best benefit of having advantage on Acrobatics checks while in Bladesong. However, Entertainer/Gladiator is the only background I can find which has Acrobatics as one of the skill proficiencies, and while it could work, it doesn't quite fit. So, I suppose the questions I have are this: what backgrounds, generally speaking, are good for a bladesinger? Is getting Acrobatics as a skill proficiency worth it, given that my Dexterity will definitely hit the 20 cap (after my Intelligence)? And should I consider seeing about potentially making a customized background?
