Heh, this made it almost 10 years before getting Necro'd - welcome to the boards, @Hattly82 ! Yeah, I think the original could use some slimming down. I agree I wouldn't use full poker rules unless the whole table was involved (preferring 1-3 skill checks to resolve in most other cases), but if only one or two characters is actually playing cards, the rest of the group could play their opponents. There are certainly some groups that prefer this sort of RP to other activities, but it's something the DM should check with the group before implementing. --------------------- As for having PC abilities play into the game, I think I'd go with (assuming no River and a hand size of 5 cards, adjust to fit): For each Int bonus point, the character draws one extra card in their hand. When cards are revealed at the end of the hand, they're limited to the game's hand size (3, 5, etc.) - the player must discard cards of their choice to fit the hand size for the final reveal. If you have proficiency in Gaming Set(Playing Cards) you can mulligan your opening hand (i.e., discard all your cards and redraw a new hand), but draw 1 less card when you do so. Players can look a number of opponent's cards during a round of cards equal to their Insight bonus (maybe cap at 10) - this can be after the first draw or any additional draws/reveals. Players who cheat can replace a number of cards in their hand or other's hands equal to their Deception skill bonus (again, maybe cap at 10) - as above, this can be at any time during draws but BEFORE the final card reveal.
