You may not like that it's not connected directly to the traits you list, but it is a reserve created by the Battlemaster's specific training that is above and beyond mundane stamina/hp's/etc. but which must still be replenished through rest at a certain point.  So I disagree that it is purely meta-game or that it is a "purely" gameplay issue as opposed to a verisimilitude one...</blockquote>
