Legend
I'm returning to ENWorld after a bit of a hiatus, and am struggling with working out the story for our upcoming campaign kick-off in 3 weeks. Any input is welcome - I just need some outside perspectives cause I keep hitting walls trying to write the first adventure.
The premise is the PCs are protecting an illegitimate heir to the throne from his father, a scheming Prince who is attempting to seize his father's throne. It's unlikely the Prince would kill his illegitimate son, but the PCs don't want the boy to be raised to become an Evil Prince Jr. as they oppose the Prince's pretensions of becoming king.
The first adventure deals with the fallout of the Prince's dealings with an oracle from whom he learns his son's location. The oracle is a morrigan, the first queen who died during childbirth while under a curse, and the price of her divination are four children to be given to her to raise as her own.
The Prince sends his soldiers with a magic object called a "sniffer" (it reads blood to determine kinship with the royal family) to find his son, and they begin forcing families to subject their children to the "sniffer." They are also given orders to return with 4 children for the morrigan.
I have the first three encounters, but I'm struggling with where to go with the rest.
The world is a homebrew based on feudal europe with a history of magic persecution and non-human oppression, as well as tension between the local lords and the Prince's redcoat soldiers.
