It sure can! Doesn't help when you have a vicious little gnome in the party who likes to put poison on her blades, either. The PCs might have had a harder time killing each other if Jamna hadn't also succumbed to the hallucinogen (or if I had rolled more like Keo's player and had her go jump in the lake). Thanks. I figured he'd want to have a chat. Based on his comments, the players are now convinced that he'll be waiting to ambush them on the other side of the portal. EDIT: After talking with Mara's player, I decided that, in retrospect, I should have had her character automatically stabilize without bothering with death saving throws, since she wasn't actually present. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. In my experience, having a PC present in the game without their player present at the table only ever leads to trouble ... Anyway, after initially discussing the possibility of Mara being possessed by the spirit of her ancestor, we ended up deciding that Mara had survived with the help of her ancestor. She has become a bit more reckless as a result, swapping out her Defense Fighting Style for the Great Weapon Fighting Style and taking the Charger feat at 6th level. Erevan's player, meanwhile, has opted to bring in the halfling rogue he played in our Lost Mine of Phandelver campaign. He was roughly the right level and in more or less the right place, and he's a member of the Zhentarim, so he can take Jamna's place in the party. (I kinda want to get her out of there, as I have a hard enough time running all the bad guys. I don't really want a DMPC as well.)
