In the following I atempt to explain why we should stop complaining abuot adventures and show those writters some love.
I just completed my first 20,000 word, read standard length full, adventure. Putting these things together is an awful lot of work. I spend hours checking back and forth between the POIs, NPCs, and Adventure blocks for internal consistency. More hours were spent inventing the POIs and NPCs. More hours stating out the NPCs and monsters, this is a human centric adventure so more time on NPC stats then monster stats. Since it is investigative in nature I had to double and tripple check information flow. All in all I probably have about 200 hours into this one adventure, and that is before the playtest (which starts next week). Now figure that standard pay seems to be anywhere from $0.01 to $0.05 per word this is between $200 and $1,000 that a written (who is not on staff) gets paid for one of these. So you're looking at making between $1 and $5 per hour to write adventures.
If you make more then this at your current job then you need to show these guys some love and be glad they publish these things since it truely is a labor of love and not one of profit.
