I did, yes--cool stuff, wasn't it? Luckily, some artists like Greg Paul have been drawing them that way for the better part of two decades. ;)

Gregory Paul is the best when it comes to paleo art. You'd think he had reference photos. ;)

Oh, and those baby domestic foxes... absolutely adorable.

As I understand it, there's an interesting (and slighly ironic) history to those domesticated foxes...

The project originally began as an attempt to breed a fox you could farm, because fox fur is/was highly prized, but foxes don't handle captivity well. Unfortunately for the breeders, the more desireable the behavior, the less desireable the coat. Domestication generally includes retaining some "immature" characteristics. Your dog acts much like a wolf puppy, your cat much like a wild-cat kitten, and so on. But by normal breeding techniques, what you often wind up doing is altering the overall development of the beast - so if you keep one trait immature, you often keep others that way. And for the foxes, that includes the coat of fur.

So, by becoming desireable to keep, they've also become less desireable to kill. Smart damned foxes, if you ask me :)

You are obviously right! I've never heard of the guy.

David Weber is a spectacular author of military SF. He is the author of the Honor Harrington series which started with "On Basilisk Station." He is in my top ten list for authors.
