Message: <blockquote data-quote="drnuncheon" data-source="post: 489641" data-attributes="member: 96">Here's an idea:A powerful demon - perhaps Graz'zt? - decides to place the paladin under his protection, and word is spread to the demons in the area.  Few of them want to upset someone so powerful, and so they keep their distance, fleeing if the paladin approaches.  Braver ones may refer to him as "the Chosen One" before flight.Of course, this catches the interest of Orcus and Demogorgon at the very least, who want to know what Graz'zt is up to with all of this 'Chosen One' stuff.  They send demons to spy - and also to the Prime, to undermine the paladin there, just in case Graz'zt is trying to get an 'inside man' in the church to help corrupt it and increase his power somehow.The paladin becomes more confused when demons appear and start following him - not in the sense of tracking him, but in the sense of working for him.  He attracts a crowd of little demonic hangers-on who are hoping to please Graz'zt by sucking up to this "Chosen One" and acting as his servants and minions.  Even a nalfeshnee, who offers to raise the cleric for him. (It's doubtful the cleric accepts, since he'd know a demon wanted to raise him, but hey, it was a nice gesture.)Finally, a powerful demon with a plane-shifting item of some kind appears and offers the character and his friends transport to the Prime.  It's working on Graz'zt's orders, of course.  If they agree, he transports them back to the Prime.Strangely, nobody seems to trust the paladin anymore...his superiors at the church are convinced that he's masking an alignment shift somehow, anyone who saw him return knows that he appeared in a puff of fire and brimstone accompanied by a hideous demon, and there have been strange warnings filtering down from the gods about a 'Chosen One' who is expected to lead the forces of evil to glorious victory...J</blockquote>
