A positive-energy BBEG: looking for details

First Post
Hey all,

Far down the road in my epic campaign, the party will meet a new antagonist. I have the basic concepts down, but I was wondering if folk here would like to brainstorm a few ideas to flesh him out.

What I have so far:
- Male
- Lawful Evil Alignment
- Blackguard or other "anti-paladin" classes
- Racial Superiority complex

and the neat part,
- Heavy connection to the Positive Energy Plane

So, putting those into the pot, what kind of characters (complete with motivations, tendencies, goals, and ideals) can you cook up? Since its an epic game, anything goes.

Thanks,

J from Three Haligonians

Obviously a heavy dosage of fast healing.

No undead, few constructs, lots of living creatures.

Some sort of Positive Energy aura/template, perhaps. I think you'd probably have to make your own such template, or find a homebrew template along those lines somewhere - I don't know of a WotC template for the positive energy plane, maybe something based off of the elemental templates?

Racial Superiority?

Well, remember the Positive Energy Plane-explosion thing? Most commoners will explode incredibly fast from it.

Perhaps he has something to immerse people in a similar conflagration of positive energy, meaning only people with enough hit points will emerge alive (i.e. his chosen race), and then, they'll be more powerful than before (due to the temporary hit points), making his minions tough buggers to deal with.

Big plan? Open massive gate to positive energy plane, to purge all weak life from the face of the planet.

Hmm... I once used a living undead template that involved infusing undead with positive energy to give them a horrifying sort of life in my epic game. That was pretty cool! For a living villain, however, I would give him some sort of immunity to the exploding positive overload effect, so he would max out at thrice his normal hp and stabilize there... and give him fast healing on a ludicrous level. Maybe also a cause disease touch effect (supercharging the growth of the disease), perhaps animate objects (like a ravid), the ability to turn undead (maybe the 'positive energy villain template' could include some divine feats as bonus feats, too), some kind of positive energy blast for lots of d6s of damage, etc. What level are your pcs going to encounter him at? My epic game's pcs are in the high 20's to low 30's at this point... if I was using a villain like this imc I'd prolly make it fast healing 50 or so.

Definitely check out the Vivacious Creature template (Planar Handbook p.132).

Might I suggest a Vivacious Githyanki Paladin of Tyranny/Blackguard? :)

If you wanted to be really silly, you could go Anti-Paladin/Blackguard/Warlock/Eldrich Disciple, using the Healing Blast and the aformentioned template.

OTOH, he could be a master manipulator.

His Positive Energy link allows him to heal. When he does so, people think he's a good person. In reality, he's just trying to influence people to like him, possibly riding a wave of popular support into greater political- perhaps even divine- power. Perhaps someone already in power takes note of him, and takes this person under his wing.

And the higher up the political ladder he goes, he's also accumulating personal power. Perhaps some of his followers even believe "The Great Man" is even semidivine.

And he could start off as just a friendly healer the party happens to meet...

Hmmm...

How about a the Lumi gone bad? They are on page 98 of Monster Manual 3. They are a LA+2 creature. Straight from the Positive Energy Plane.

Hmmm... I think I will use this idea myself... :)
