Hello, We are going to start a new campaign soon [for 7-th level characters] and I would like to play a character with the following traits: Holy warrior, preferably a cleric. - I have never played as a cleric before, so I intend to use cleric spells to boost fighting skills of the character [and the group] and to alter the battlefield to our advantage. - Spellcasting abilities of paladins seem very weak [the low caster level is plain silly]. Good fighting skills. - No-frills style, efficient combatant [I do not have enough feat slots to invest into more tactical and technical feats]. - Reasonable strength and dexterity. - Lightly armored [to reduce armor check penalties and use evasion later]. Highly skilled. - Fighting evil is a matter of diplomacy in the first place [full ranks in Diplomacy, Heal and Knowledge(Religion)]. - Full ranks in Concentration and Spellcraft [helpful for spellcasters]. - Half of the full rank in Listen and Spot [because I like it]. - Several ranks in Balance, Climb, Jump, Swim and Tumble [it fits the character in my opinion]. This is what I have come up with so far: - Ftr[2] Clr[5], Human. - Domains: Travel and War. - Str 14 * Dex 14 * Con 10 * Int 14 * Wis 15 * Cha 14 (32 point buy + 1 stat increase at the 4-th level). - Feats: Able Learner, Blind-Fight, Combat Expertise, Power Attack, Improved Initiative, Improved Trip, Weapon Focus [from the War domain]. - Candidate feats: Lightning Reflexes, Improved Disarm, Knockdown. - Skill points: 5 per level. Basic equipment: - A +1 ranseur [alchemical silver] and masterwork net [the net might be useful even without the proficiency]. - A +1 longsword. - A +1 mithral shirt [no armor penalties]. - A +1 large mithral shield. - Potions of Expeditious Retreat. - Potions of Enlarge Person. - Potions of Mage Armor and Shield [useful against enemies with touch attacks or when - fighting with the ranseur]. - Potions of Blur, Mirror Image and Invisibility. - Potions of Fly. Comments: - I intend to use Improved Disarm, Improved Trip and Knockdown later with the Divine Power and Righteous Might spells. Questions: - What combination of classes would suit such a character best? - What cleric spells are best for improving fighting skills? For manipulating battlefield? - Is there any way to get more skill points per level [besides raising intelligence or changing race]? - Is it better to invest stat increases in strength or in wisdom? - Can War domain grant Weapon Focus in an exotic weapon [like bastard sword]. - I was thinking about investing some skill points in the Use Magic Device skill. Is this skill useful? Thanx in advance.
