A question about Kalarel [KotS, spoilers]

Sorry if this' been answered recently; My search-fu could not locate an answer.

Kalarel's tactics say he teleports to the magic circle using an amulet - which is detailed nowhere in the adventure. I could handwave, and say the amulet simply teleports him to the center of the magic circle as a minor action. How was it intended to work?

I can't find this reference either. Also next to his AC it says "See also Shadowform," but I can't find that either. Any help?

From my searching, I found Shadow Form was a removed ability, but I've found no answer to the amulet problem.

It's just a handwave. If the players kick up a fuss, have the amulet flare in a burst of magical light and be consumed by it.

It's a 4e handwave to make sure Kalarel makes it to the area near the portal, and I think it's a good one.

And since he's supposed to be dragged, kicking and screaming into the portal once his HP drop, the PCs are not really supposed to collect his stuff. Thus, the DM fiat of the power of the amulet is an easy DM escape.
