A question for Scott Rouse

Hello Scott, since you work for WotC and have joined in on recent threads, I thought that you would be the best person to answer my question. What in the world is going on with WotC's 2008 schedule? It's just fluff, novels, and some token Eberron books. Do you have any inside info as to what has caused this dramatic shift in the emphasis of WotC's D&D products? Obvioulsy if it has to do with a release of a certain new edition, you probably won't be at liberty to discuss this. Anyway, I know I am one of many that is confused by the 2008 release schedule. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Should be said that Scott mentioned a week or so ago that the he and other WotC staffers wouldn't be posting much right now due to prepping for GenCon.

I have a feeling he would have chimed in on at least one of the billions of theads that are cropping up by now if that wasn't the case, though.

Unfortunately, the 2008 release schedule isn't officially announced, meaning that no one can really talk about the products. As I understand it, officially announced means appearing on WotC's Products page.
Exactly. And considering people are drawing conclusions from the absence of currently unannounced products, well, I'm certainly not holding my breath. You know that whole "absence of a negative doesn't prove a positive" sorta stuff. All you need is for a few products to pop up on Amazon later than the rest (which as I understand has happened before) and all the hooplah is (yet again) unsubstantiated. :)

I was under the impression that once the WotC catalogs are released to distributors/retailers, those products are officially announced. The product list on the WotC site sometimes lags significantly behind the paper catalogs, so I doubt that's a good measure of "officially announced". For example, the next D&D minis set -- Desert of Desolation -- doesn't yet appear on that product list, and there have definitely been WotC staffers commenting on that.

I think everyone took my comment out of context.
It wasn't to say that there might be more products coming, but that typically WotC employees and freelancers don't discuss them until they are on that page. As such, they might not be able to come to this thread and discuss the product list or any "inside information."
