You (and the amorphous, faceless blob that constitutes "lots of gamers") clearly find it reasonable. But there are a number of people, including sandbox gamers and their playstyles - which you clearly discount by declaring your approach as "universal" - would find this a clear violation of the player's protagonism and agency as well as a "dick move." Perhaps it would helpful for discussion if you didn't declare approaches that share your biases as being "universally" held. Additionally, my character is a part of the setting too. Does this mean that the GM can unilaterally declare my character dead too?</blockquote>
