One might guess at a look that he had enough muscle to lift his arms and, well, that's about it. And they would be right. Despite his looks, however, Fimble McGee is the sturdiest wizard you'll ever meet. His straight, sandy hair isn't cut short but isn't long either. It clings to his skull and then at the neck curls out to the tips in a feeble act of rebellion. His round yet bony face is accentuated by a well-kept goatee on the chin. His silver rimmed glasses rest at the tip of his large gnomish nose, giving him that distinguished look of a scholar, while his blue eyes glint with a spark of cheer.

His outfit is simple and efficient. A long-sleeved, tan shirt under a pale grey vest rests above his long, brown, somewhat baggy breeches. Black, leather, knee high boots hold his hairy feet. All this is covered by a large, thick, light blue cloak, complete with a hood and several pockets. A very full, brown leather satchel rests at his left side, and a small crossbow and full quiver hang on his back by a strap. Using his gnarled quarterstaff as a walking stick, his telltale approach is marked by a loud *clack* after every other step.

Personality: Having been raised by wealthy merchants, Fimbus III has excellent manners. Fimble loves and respects both of his parents very much, and he talks about his home in Fallon fondly and often. He always introduces himself with his full name and an almost regal bow. The little gnome’s whole persona is exaggerated; a flourish with every bow, a wink with every joke, and huge gestures with every story. He has a jovial demeanor, a love of life not found in those with less fortunate childhoods, but somehow he manages to pull it all off without seeming spoiled. Some might interpret his actions as foppish or naïve. Fimble prefers to think of himself as friendly and confident.

In any extended conversation with the wizard, he almost always finds a way to turn the discussion towards his calling in life: magic. Fimble is fascinated with arcana of all kinds, he loves the runes, the dusty old tomes, and especially the spectacular effects. His favorite kind of magic looks big and sounds loud, regardless of the actual effect. That’s part of the reason he’s an illusionist. He is known for idly playing with minor illusions when he talks, and he often accompanies his dinner stories with magical displays of tiny moving illustrations.

Fimble is a generous gnome. He’ll gladly give to those in need, without expecting anything in return. He won’t donate what he can’t afford, however. He’s still young, and has a lot to learn, but he’s not as green as he seems. He worships Antonidas of Drevin mostly out of formality. His parents weren’t religious and neither is he. He’s not entirely convinced that clerics’ powers don’t come from within, and clerics just attribute their magic to divine beings. Secretly, he thinks of deities like his illusions: What does it matter if they’re real or not, so long as people believe they are? This way of thinking is politically incorrect in the current times, however, so he keeps his thoughts to himself.

He loves books. He loves reading about magic and architecture. He likes to play with chemicals, and he can cook up a mean Alchemist’s Fire pretty darn quick. He makes friends quickly and easily. He’s a happy little wizard gnome, and that’s about it.

[SBLOCK=History: ]

Public except where noted.

Fimbus I, the Medibarian War Hero

[SBLOCK]Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons I was a poor country gnome, living in a humble hole in a hill on the outskirts of the small kingdom of Medibaria. He had a pretty little wife with whom he was very in love, and she with him. She kept the home and a small garden while he grew crops to sell at the market. His wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy about one decade into their marriage. He looked so much like his father that she decided to name him after his "pa". Humble, young Fimbus I resisted at first but eventually gave in when he saw how glad it made her. One fateful day, the nation of Medibaria got into a conflict with its neighboring nation, Hendralia, and, as nations often do, war was declared. As an able-bodied male, Fimbus was drafted into the army. His pretty little wife wept and his beautiful baby boy giggled as he donned his military uniform for the first time.

In the war, this poor but extremely intelligent gnome faced such universal problems as racism, aristocratic arrogance, and "height-ism". Yet through some courageous deeds, young Fimbus earned some respect, earned some love, and eventually earned some command. With his squad of gnomish "mini-men", as they were affectionately called, he destroyed bridges, walls, and buildings of the enemy and created the same for the homeland with remarkable efficiency and speed. Many men owe their lives to the "mini-men", and the war was expeditious and victorious for the small kingdom. Fimbus was honored and glorified by the king, he received several medals for "Courage in the Service of His Country" and "Ingenuity and Excellence" and "Expert Leadership". His reputation among the people was that of a magnificent hero.

In spite of all this attention, young Fimbus remained humble and really only wanted to see his pretty little wife and beautiful baby boy. Two years had gone by and while it isn't as much to a gnome as it is to a human, he missed his small family something terrible. He requested honorable discharge from the king, and it was immediately granted. He went to the capital for the ceremony, and he became a farmer again. And the people cheered for their hero and raised him above their heads, to his embarrassed dismay.

That fateful day, an assassin from the enemy had infiltrated the capital to kill the king. The murderer confused the festivities as monarchial ceremonies and killed young Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons I. The assassin was arrested by city guardsmen and put in a holding cell to await execution. That night, a riotous mob stormed the jail and killed every prisoner except one, whom they carried off, bound by chains, to the woods. Nobody knows the identity of this prisoner or the gruesome fate that he met in the forest, but conjectures can be made.

The news eventually reached the pretty little wife. She was devastated and not comforted at all by the vast fortune that was given to her for her husband's success in the military. She hid most of it away and continued her life in her humble hole in the hill on the outskirts of the small kingdom, raising her son to be as much like her beloved spouse as she could.[/SBLOCK]

Fimbus II, the Gemcutter of Fallon

[SBLOCK]Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons II grew up in the quiet provincial life of his father. He remembered nothing of his namesake, but his mother's stories and what rumors he collected painted a marvelous picture for him. At night he dreamed of his father's deeds on the battlefield and wished he could have such adventures. When he turned 40, the traditional age of adulthood for gnomes, his pretty little mother caught a debilitating sickness that forced her to remain in bed all day. The sickness was of mysterious and possibly arcane or divine origin, said the doctors who came to see her. She would certainly die if she wasn't helped by a powerful cleric soon. Unfortunately, no clerics of the small kingdom were of any use, and none could be summoned fast enough.

The sickness quickly took its toll on the pretty little mother, and she became even littler. Unable to leave her side, Fimbus II listened to her delirious ramblings for days. On the day of her death, she mistook her beautiful son for her beloved husband and hugged him to her tightly, saying, "Oh, my dear Fimble! How I missed you so! Our son, he is so beautiful, don't you think? He's a fine young gnome, just like you were, Fimble!" And here she dropped to a whisper and glanced around, checking to see if anyone was in the room. Satisfied that they were alone, she said softly in his ear, "And it's buried, Fimble, dear, but not for long. I'm going to give it to our beautiful son as soon as he turns forty! Isn't it exciting? Oh it'll be so wonderful, I'm so glad you're here Fimble, dear... You know I'm quite tired darling, I think I'll take a quick nap, then I'll join you for a stroll in the woods, how lovely it'll be when we come back with his little present... Mmm..." She slept peacefully for the first time in years, never to wake again.

Fimbus II mourned the death of his mother for many a moon, and her reputation as wife to the famous Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons I brought dozens of mourners to her funeral. After the ceremonies, after everyone had left, Fimbus II was alone to contemplate his life. While the mourners had offered gifts, Fimbus II had refused them all. His mother had had little to no money, they were very poor. Happy, but poor. He recalled what he had previously assumed were the delirious ramblings of a dying woman and reconsidered them. With nothing more to do, he took a walk in the woods.

Nobody knows where he went, but when he returned many hours later, he was dragging a large chest, even by human standards. He opened the chest to find it filled with innumerable... rocks. Nothing but plain, ordinary, garden rocks. The only other thing in the box was an odd-looking shovel with an unfamiliar seal branded on the handle. A look of fury passed over his always happy face. Someone had stolen his parents' last gift to him, his final memory had been taken by greedy thieves. And his only clue was this stupid looking shovel.

That night, a short traveler carrying a weird digging implement was seen leaving the small kingdom. He never came back.

Many years later, Fimbus II is a well-renowned gemcutter, known as the best by far in the city of Fallon, and perhaps the best in all the land. He not only cuts marvelous gems with unrivaled precision and beauty but also owns what is believed to be one of the largest stash of uncut gems in the world. Where all these precious stones come from, nobody knows for sure. The rumors say that Fimbus II was walking one day on a mountain when he tripped and fell off the cliff, where he luckily landed on a ledge invisible from the cliff. This ledge led into a cave filled with these gems, and he cut them all out using his bare hands and whatever hard, striking implements he could scrounge up. He then carried this huge mass of rock by the armful to his house where he practiced his gemcutting skills until he had honed them to perfection. Another story says he was actually the organized crime boss in another city, and he ran here to escape his dangerous enemies. Needless to say, none of these stories are actually true.

Fimbus II and his wife are both middle-aged and appropriately sized, but they have sturdy looks about them, as though they had seen a lot physical hardship in their day. Actually, for many years they had adventured together, gathering this huge hoard of stones over the decades. Once they had lost count of the number of times they had saved each other's lives, they decided to settle down in Fallon, where Fimbus II started his gemcutting business. It didn't take them long to have a son, who of course took after his father in all things, looks included. The couple decided to honor Fimbus' parents and named their son accordingly.

[SBLOCK=Possible Adventure: ]When Fimbus left home with the odd shovel, he went hunting for the thief who stole his family’s treasure. He never found the culprit, but he did make a fortune adventuring. The seal on the shovel is complex and nobody he’s ever shown it to recognizes it. Occasionally, he puts up posters in Fallon which read, “Have you seen this shovel? Have you seen this seal? Reward: 10,000 Gold Crowns” and depict the odd-looking digging implement, sans the branded seal on the handle, and an enlarged version of the seal below it. So far, no legitimate claims have been made on the reward. A few people have claimed to see the seal, but upon research their memories “must have failed them.” And one man turned in a replica of the shovel, hoping to get the reward, but he did not brand the shovel with the seal, so Fimbus easily spotted it as a fake. Who stole the Gimmons family fortune? Is there any of it left? And are the thieves still operating today? These are questions Fimbus wants answered, and if anybody gives him valid information, he will gladly pay handsomely for it.

[/SBLOCK][/SBLOCK]

Fimbus III, the Illusionist Extraordinaire

[SBLOCK]Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons III was born into a wealthy family in wondrous and mystical Fallon, City of Falls. His mother, Lady Gimmons, loved her son and cared for him with immense affection. His first words were his father's name, "Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons", though because he was an infant, it came out as a garbled, "Fimble McGee!" It stuck, and he has been called Fimble McGee by his family and friends for as long as he can remember. His mother taught him to read and write from a very young age. When she was teaching him to write his name, he loved writing the whole monstrous thing out again and again, filling up page after page. The tiny master also devoured books by the dozen. He especially loved the ones about magic. He attempted to teach himself a few spells and achieved moderate success. His mother loved to see him so excited, so she invited a gnome illusionist whom she had met in her travels to come see her little Fimble.

The gnomish scholar decided that he could benefit from such wealthy patrons and agreed to apprentice young Fimble in exchange for the funding of the Gimmonses in his various magical experiments. A deal was made and Fimble learned wizardry. As many gnomes do, he had a particular affinity with illusion spells, though he could never quite get the hang of abjuration and simply despised the prospect of necromancy. In his spare time he fiddled about with alchemy.

After many years of tutelage, the master illusionist sadly decreed that he could no longer teach Fimble, only experiencing the world first hand would do him much good now. The Gimmonses hated to see their son go, but they all knew it was best. He packed a small bag and bade his family goodbye. Of course, the Gimmonses decided to continue to fund the illusionist, who was overjoyed at this news and still invents new spells to this day.

The young Fimble ventured out into the world, learning a little bit about everything. He especially liked architecture and the beautifully complex gizmos that his kin would make. He heard of the city of Orussus and its reputation for harboring hardcore adventurers. Intrigued, Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons III set forth on his journey.

After weeks of travel, he has arrived. Exhausted but happy to have reached his destination, he enters the first tavern that he sees, coincidentally (or not...?) the one he had heard of on his sojourn, the Red Dragon.[sblock=First Entrance at the RDI: ]The friendly poker game is loudly interrupted when the door to the Red Dragon Inn is thrown open. A sudden burst of wind slams the door against the wall, a great *CRACK!* resounds across the room. Startled patrons look out into the black night where a figure shrouded in darkness stands ominously. This creature edges slowly towards the entrance with an odd gait, a third, misshapen leg clacks against the ground as it edges closer. It reaches the door and the light of the tavern reveals the identity of the stranger.

"Oh my! Sorry about all that noise, this wind is so strong, I can barely walk! Goodness..." A small gnome using a gnarled quarterstaff as a walking stick enters the tavern and hastily shuts the door. He smooths down his simple and efficient traveling outfit and heads to the bar to greet the barkeep. "Good evening, sir, you must be Joe? I heard of your tavern all the way back in my home town, it's weeks away. Oh, I'm sorry! My name!" With this he once again straightens his clothes. Puffing his chest out imperiously and throwing back his cloak with dashing flair, he pronounces:

"Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons the third, illusionist extraordinaire, at your service!" He brings his chest in a bit and gives Joe a wink. "But you can call me Fimble McGee. Perhaps you know my father, Fimbus II? He's quite well known in our city, maybe not around here though. Well then, how about a bit of ale?" Upon receiving his mug, he glances around at the clientele.

Seeing a game of cards going on at one table, Fimble decides to go make some friends. He strides over to the table to introduce himself.

[/SBLOCK][/SBLOCK][/SBLOCK]

[sblock=Experience: ]XP Chart:

200 XP from 2 RL months, Armgill's Heirloom

150 XP from a battle in the woods, Armgill's Heirloom

1810 XP from a sewer expedition and a fight with rats, R2: Rats in a Maze

825 XP from an absurdly long fight with a wererat, R2: Rats in a Maze

1400 XP from 19 RL months, R2: Rats in a Maze

250 XP from roleplaying, R2: Rats in a Maze

[sblock=Leveling Notes: ]L2: Wizard (Illusionist)

HP 7+6=13. [B]Personality: [/B]Having been raised by wealthy merchants, Fimbus III has excellent manners. Secretly, he thinks of deities like his illusions: What does it matter if they’re real or not, so long as people [i]believe[/i] they are? This way of thinking is politically incorrect in the current times, however, so he keeps his thoughts to himself. He loves books. He loves reading about magic and architecture. He likes to play with chemicals, and he can cook up a mean Alchemist’s Fire pretty darn quick. He makes friends quickly and easily. He’s a happy little wizard gnome, and that’s about it. [SBLOCK=History: ] [i]Public except where noted.[/i] [U]Fimbus I[/U], the Medibarian War Hero [SBLOCK]Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons I was a poor country gnome, living in a humble hole in a hill on the outskirts of the small kingdom of Medibaria. She hid most of it away and continued her life in her humble hole in the hill on the outskirts of the small kingdom, raising her son to be as much like her beloved spouse as she could.[/SBLOCK] [U]Fimbus II[/U], the Gemcutter of Fallon [SBLOCK]Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons II grew up in the quiet provincial life of his father. [/SBLOCK][/SBLOCK] [U]Fimbus III[/U], the Illusionist Extraordinaire [SBLOCK]Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons III was born into a wealthy family in wondrous and mystical Fallon, City of Falls. [COLOR=RoyalBlue]"Oh my! Sorry about all that noise, this wind is so strong, I can barely walk! Goodness..."[/COLOR] A small gnome using a gnarled quarterstaff as a walking stick enters the tavern and hastily shuts the door. He smooths down his simple and efficient traveling outfit and heads to the bar to greet the barkeep. [COLOR=RoyalBlue]"Good evening, sir, you must be Joe? I heard of your tavern all the way back in my home town, it's weeks away. Oh, I'm sorry! My name!"[/COLOR] With this he once again straightens his clothes. Puffing his chest out imperiously and throwing back his cloak with dashing flair, he pronounces: [COLOR=RoyalBlue]"Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons the third, illusionist extraordinaire, at your [I]service![/I]"[/COLOR] He brings his chest in a bit and gives Joe a wink. [COLOR=RoyalBlue]"But you can call me Fimble McGee. Perhaps you know my father, Fimbus II? He's quite well known in our city, maybe not around here though. Well then, how about a bit of ale?"[/COLOR] Upon receiving his mug, he glances around at the clientele. Seeing a game of cards going on at one table, Fimble decides to go make some friends. He strides over to the table to introduce himself.
