"A Song of Ice and Fire" in May issue of Dragon...

What are your feelings on this. Apparently the May issue of Dragon is going to be devoted to Martin's ASoI&F series. It's nice to see that it will be getting roleplaying treatment, and D20 to boot, yet I was hoping for an entire sourcebook with support. I imagine it'll be similar to the "Shanarra" issue a while back.

What are your feelings - excited, disappointed, somewhere in the middle?

I am kind of in the middle. The world does not easily translate to the high magic d20 world of D&D. I did really like some of the ideas that the Shannara articals had on handling magic and for that reason look forward to seeing what the May issue will bring.

I'm looking forward to it. I was hoping it would get some kind of treatment, although a full out book would be better.

Hopefully they'll do a good job, i think a lot of poeple will be snatching the issue up.

Really looking forward to a good job....but dreading it if it is bad. Wish we knew who was writing it.

Perhaps if it is really bad we can do our own conversion here at ENWorld....Then again maybe my WoT site can make some room for a section on GRRM? My home game is based mostly around GRRMs theme and tone but uses WoT magic & rules so it would not be that much of a strech for me.

I too wanted a full book, but I also wouldn't want d20 treatment until the Novels were done. I feel the same way about WoT. While authors need the freedom to mold their worlds as the story demands, the 'source books' often give rules that wont fit the next Novel that is out or provide plot hooks that end up leading in the wrong direction. I for one find that disappointing.

Very excited, despite the lack of the full-on treatment. Maybe it's better this way, leaving the majority of the background info to the books and us.

A full out book would have been great. I think FFG would be working on it since they hold the license for the CCG.

And I can't wait for his novel! GAH!

If the reaction is good, maybe this could presage a fuller treatment? At least Martin is participating (by permitting Dragon to do this) if nothing else.
