I'm sure they'd also like to make X-Men 3 with Bryan Singer leaving 20th Century Fox and Marvel out. In other words, so what. Its not their decision to make unless New Line agrees, which means no money for MGM, because NL sure as hell won't hand over the story. Obviously they'll reach a compromise, possibly with one studio taking all the domestic profits while the other takes overseas.Ranger REG said:Old news. I'm afraid that due to the success of LOTR, MGM/UA will want to be the sole producer and distributor of the Hobbit film, and will seek to hire Peter Jackson personally, leaving New Line Cinema out.
MGM doesn't own any rights to LOTR, just The Hobbit. New Line purchased the rights from whatever company produced the Ralph Bakshi LOTR cartoon, but The Hobbit is partially owned by MGM.Ranger REG said:I thought MGM/UA handles all distribution of LOTR films, both domestic and overseas.
