Session 26 (22-3-2023): The Secrets of the High Bayou 500 A.O.V., autumn, day 6 The group heads toward the ziggurat, guided by clues and a map created by Xambria. To get there, they first take the train to the city of Bole (a one-day journey). From Bole, they travel through the hills to the village of Agate (another one-day journey). Finally, they trek through the swamp (the High Bayou) to reach the ziggurat (one more day). At a clearing, they see the ziggurat. Quite a bit before the ziggurat, a bit they spot the archaeologists' camp, where there are three corpses (archaeologists). Zuna experiences a vision of the three archaeologists clutching their heads in severe pain before collapsing. The group enters the ziggurat. They descend a very long staircase, but when they look back up, it seems they’ve only taken a few steps—they’re still close to the entrance. Inside, they find various rooms with traps, including a puzzle room with colored stones, bridges, and walls. In this last puzzle, Zuna manages to reach the opposite side. She touches a white stone and receives a vision. Three orcs, dressed in primitive hides, hold a staff, a sword, and an amulet. They stand before a golden plate in the wall, surrounded by monsters similar to those seen at the arms fair, though these monsters are partially transparent. The creatures seem reluctant to attack. The one with the sword speaks in the Ancients language (but Zuna understands it): “War beasts of Gidim! The seal of Toteth has failed!” The one with the amulet replies, “They come from Gidim, but I sense the dust of Apet upon them.” The one with the sword retorts, “You can smell them later—think about them so I can strike!” The one with the staff closes his eyes, and one of the creatures loses its transparency, making it vulnerable to the sword. From this moment, Zuna can speak Ancient and learns how to weaken a creature with the Thoughtform subtype. Zuna shares this information with the group. The group also finds a room with a map of the ancient world. A light shines on their current location and on another point along the coast of Ber. They discover a chamber containing a golden seal. When they remove it, they find a portal leading to a void, where a human body floats with its face “destroyed.” There are no signs of decay on the corpse. Every time Zuna encounters a corpse in the ziggurat, she has a vision of its death; in this case, it’s of an evil creature attacking them. They accidentally trigger a trap, causing dark green acid to slowly begin flowing into the ziggurat…
