I agree that the logical outcome is Funny Hats, or even more Funny Hats that it is already. Races are already a very strange concept to have in fantasy. It's an heritage of a time where people thought there were different human races, so elf wasn't that removed from humans than so-called races within the human species. However, once you get to the idea that fantasy races aren't more distinct from the human species than so-called races within it, it leads to the logical result that all differences must be eliminated. The point could even be made that since orcs, elves, dwarves and humans are capables of having children, they are simply 8 sexes of a single orcish species, some combinations of which produces children, and with a little more sexual dimorphism than between human males and females. And we got rid of sexual differences in the rules a long time ago. So, groups will have to choose. Much like they do when using safety measures like the X card. If your campaign is "Heroes against the child slaver ring" and one of the players X's harm to children, the groupe has to choose: either they dump the campaign concept or they dump the player (much like the film industry does: we have films for all audiences and films for teenagers. If you're 8, you're out of the theater showing Deadpool). Either races will become "funny hats" to encompass the largest player base (and those who want to emulate the problematic genre of the past will reintroduce it at their table) or the game will keep them and be less inclusive. For a company, the first way is obviously the one that will allows them more sales, therefore the way to go.
