Hi Everyone, Moderators, if this is inappropriate for this section of the website please move it. Project Title Dungeons & Dragons: Community, Identity & Nostalgia An Invitation & The Purpose of This Research Hello. My name is Corey Walden and I am the primary researcher on this project. The purpose of this research is to focus on the communities that arise through Dungeons & Dragons and the creation of fictitious identities in the game. This research will focus on the future continuation of Dungeons & Dragons, as well as the historical or nostalgic implications that the game has for you as players. An ancillary goal of this research is to fulfill the requirements for a Master’s thesis (and qualification). This then, is an invitation for you to assist me with this project. If you are willing, your part will be completing an online survey on Survey Monkey. As such, it is asked that all participants have had experience with either being a player or Dungeon Master for a Dungeons & Dragons game. The survey will be gathered from American communities that play Dungeons & Dragons (irrespective of edition). By reading through this invitation and answering the questions on the survey you are providing your consent to take part in this survey. Another aspect of this project is researching academic theory that pertains to the topics of community, identity and nostalgia – this will provide a supplementary basis for my research. If you do take part in the survey, as noted above, this process is entirely optional and anonymous. I will have no way of knowing who has completed it and who hasn’t. The data collected will not be sold to third parties, and will only be used for the purpose of academic research – in the form of a thesis, or for future academic projects. If you do decide to respond to the survey I really appreciate your input and assistance with this exciting project. Once the thesis is completed and published I will make the research available in PDF format for anyone interested. Remember, participants must be 18 years old or above, identify as American, and have experienced being either a DM or player in a Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. The link to the survey is here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/dungeonsanddragons I know there is a lot of information to sift through before beginning. I would have loved to make it more user friendly, but that is the nature of academic research regarding ethics! The survey begins on the second page. Thanks, Corey
