Access to Craft Reserve feat ?

First Post
I liked the idea of Craft Reserve for the Artificer from Eberron and was thinking of doing the same thing for my wizard class in a homebrew setting. However, instead of giving them the craft reserve points directly from the class feature i thought it would be more balanced if they had to take a feat that would grant wizards that class feature.

Since i have never designed feats before, i would like to know what are the balancing issues that should be kept in mind when creating a feat that allows a wizard to have a pool of craft reserve (how much points ?) to create magic items instead of XP or is the fundamental of this concept is already unbalancing from the start ? :o

Oh, i have no intention of using the Artificer for my homebrew so i would like to listen more about your input about designing this feat... :D

First off, I love the Artificer class.

Now for my question to you. Are you going to allow unused craft reserve points to "roll-over" when the character levels up?

Depending on your answer my recommendations are such:
Yes - craft reserve points at each Wizard (and only Wizard) level equal to: Wizard level x (5 + Intelligence bonus).
No - craft reserve points at each Wizard (and only Wizard) level equal to: Wizard level x (10 + Intelligence bonus).

This is just my opinion. I allow craft reserve points for Artificers in my world to roll-over.

Good luck and have fun.

I don't like the idea of another craft feat there are to many already. Whay I do in one of my homebrew's with no artificer class is give alittle extra to the craft feats themselves.
First for every craft feat you have you earn 1% of all xp as craft points in a craft pool. So all wizards by virtue of having scribe scroll as a bonus feat start earning craft points right out the gate. It seems balanced and works ok, I also let craft points roll over.

Other thing I am thinking about doing, have not used it yet though. Is to alloy a feat that lets other crafters to have the retain essesence ability of an artificer, and add it to the list of wizard bonus feats. I don't allow characters in my game eberron game to customize magic items unless they track down a powerful enough artificer and not only give him the gold cost of the wanted item but also another item for him to drain the right amount of xp from (why would an npc use up his craft points on them).

As far as your idea, sounds ok but I would give them more craft points then the artifcer for having spent a feat on in or allow the addition of bonus craft points when they gain a new craft item feat like out of UA.

Here is link to SRD with optional craft point system if you don't have it.
