Aces & Eights Shotgun demo/tutorial

Just to address the combat speed question above - Millennium's End used a similar overlay system and once we got it done combats moved quite quickly.

Two cents,

I think it's a really neat mechanic but I have to wonder if it really adds anything to the game. Do players really care to spend all that time just to know exactly where they hit an opponent? It seems like too much work just to determine hit and damage.

Short answer? YES -- players care. If you check out the discussions on combat on our boards I think that much is obvious. Most A&8 players are passionate about the combat system.

Probably something you have to get your hands on and persobnally experience.

if you look at the beginning of Tutorial #2 you'll see resolving an actual shot really doesn't take that much time.

But I know my gaming group wouldn't go for it, unfortunately.

That's what I thought. I ordered the book, anyway (4-6 week lead time from Amazon, though). In talking with my players they actually seem to have some interest in it.

I doubt western will ever replace fantasy or modern supernatural as my group's genre of choice, but it will probably actually see some play. And, really, I have no problem shelling out $50 for a nice tome that brings me even six months of enjoyment/playtime. I'm sure I've got a couple of D&D suppliments (at $25+ a pop) that will get used for maybe two sessions in the next five years.
