Even a casual perusal of Bill Waterson's Calvin & Hobbes 10th Anniversary Book will reveal why. He goes on at length about how be fought long and hard to prevent his strip from being licensed. Despite the fact that it would have made him extremely rich, he felt doing so would be selling out the soul of his strip, and he adamantly refused to do that. Eventually, when pressure from Universal Syndicate became too much, he simply quit, and luckily his current contract had given him control of the strip, so that when he left, they couldn't make more without him.One of the things he mentions is that "I didn't want some animation studio giving Hobbes an actor's voice." Between this and everything else he says, its pretty clear that a movie would be the absolute last thing he'd want, and since he controls the rights to his comic utterly, it's extremely unlikely it'll ever happen. I, as a loyal reader of his work, and very proud that he was that scrupulous about the heart of his work.As a side note, if you see something merchandise with Calvin & Hobbes material on it, odds are good it was made illegally, since he never once agreed to any licensing deals.</blockquote>
