Action Points

Okay, so no one has any advice. That's fne, that's fine...I'm not discourged.

*sniff*

But I do have a question that's come up: Characters are starting out at 4th level, and we're not sure how many action points they should have. I know how many you get per level, but I think that it's a safe assumption that this newly created character spent some action points on his way to 4th level.

We've got one guy figured at 24 points. Should I leave that as-is, half it, or reduce it by some percentage?

welcome Rolzup :D

the guideline for PCs higher than first level is: action points are equal to half their character level (p 204)

personally, i like Crothian's idea better :D

(and btw, (in regards to your other thread) i haven't run a D20 Modern game yet, so i really don't have any good advice to give...)

Here's how I do it for NPCs. I take how many they should have total, and then I cut it in half. If they are a combat-type, I also subtract their character level. If the character is not a combat-type, I usually just leave it at (max/2). Whatever number I end up with, I always give them their last level's worth of Action Points on top of the number derived from the above formulae.

But PCs are going to need more Action Points than NPCs, simply because the PCs are going to be around in the campaign longer than any NPCs (hopefully). I would give them max Action Points minus double their level. I think that would give a reasonable outcome.

In my campaign, we have four characters, and all are 3rd level. Each of them has between 3 and 10 Action Points from my recollection. Some have spent more, and some have spent less, but that's the basic range for 3rd level characters in my experience so far.
