There is a list of loot and some obvious "don't touch that" item, and like 50 sections later, the book randomly asks "do you have this item? If so, it explodes and you're dead".I chose not to explore the other parts of Book 1 with the Blood Sword series, where you pick another patron, because I wanted to explore more of the main quest, but I the book was quite long, and starting with either Kalugen or Vyl gave a lot of lore (and opportunity to die because neither of them actually want you to succeed...)</blockquote>
