We're prepping the release of The Villainomicon, Adamant Entertainment's collection of super-villains for use with Green Ronin's Mutants & Masterminds.... and I had a thought: Originally, we had planned on releasing it as a PDF and a print-on-demand book, but then I had another idea. My biggest problem (as a GM), is when I buy a book of villains (or monsters, or what-have-you), and only find a handful that are useful for my particular campaign. Given that, I'm considering releasing the villains in PDF individually, allowing GMs to pick the ones best-suited for their needs. Each villain is fully statted and illustrated, with a full write-up featuring role-playing notes and several featured adventure hooks. We'd sell them for $1 each, and release them weekly. We'd offer a subscription for interested GMs for a full year's releases (at a discount), and at the end of the year, assemble the villains for the print-on-demand book as originally planned (available at a significant discount for subscribers). Which method would you prefer? Single release, or year-long series? We're looking for gamers opinions on this one.
