On the first round in the minute, a character may change position, cast a spell, or perform some other action in preparation for further activity. The character must then declare which technique they are using, and against whom. The character then spends the remaining nine rounds in the minute performing the stated technique. Should the character stop during any point in the nine rounds, the Prowess check automatically fails. Any circumstance, spell or other effects active for at least five rounds of this period are included as modifiers to the Prowess check.

Climax

When a character becomes Climaxed, the duration of the climax in rounds must be determined. Instead of resolving Prowess checks against the character for an entire minute, they are resolved *each round* until the character is no longer Climaxed. To maintain a subject's Climaxed status for the next round, a Prowess check must succeed the base DC (12/15) plus a cumulative penalty: +5 if the subject is male and +2 if the subject is female. If the check succeeds, the character remains Climaxed for the next round. If the check fails, at the end of the round the character's status reverts to Aroused (if female) or None (if male), and the character begins the next minute in that state.

Example: After resolving a normal (minute-long) Prowess check, female character X becomes Climaxed. Her partner now begins making Prowess checks against her each round to maintain the climax. On the first round, X is already climaxed, and the DC to maintain her climax is (15 + 2 = 17). Her partner's Prowess check result is 21, so she remains climaxed on the next round. Now the DC increases again, to (15 + 2 + 2 = 19). This time, her partner's Prowess check result is 14, so on the following round character X reverts to Aroused status, having experienced two rounds of Climax.

Note: Although character X's partner makes Prowess checks against her every round until her climax ends, she does *not* make Prowess checks (even passive ones) every round in response unless her partner is also Climaxed (a simultaneous climax). Instead, she resolves her own Prowess checks once for the entire minute, as normal.

Sexual Fatigue

Undergoing climax is exhausting both mentally and physically, and as such characters are limited to how long they can remain in this state. For both genders, each discrete Climax (as opposed to each individual round of Climax) does 1 point of temporary Wisdom damage as a result of mental fatigue. Physical fatigue is as follows:

Male characters can sustain (2 + Con bonus) rounds of Climax before becoming Fatigued. Once Fatigued, they can sustain (2 + Con bonus) rounds of Climax before becoming Exhausted. Furthermore, once they have dropped from a state of Climax, they go into a state of Recovery.

Female characters can sustain (Con score) rounds of Climax before becoming Fatigued. Once Fatigued, they can sustain (Con score) rounds of Climax before becoming Exhausted.

While a character is Exhausted, each discrete Climax inflicts points of subdual damage equal to the character’s HD.

Passive Prowess Checks

In some cases, a character makes a Prowess check passively, as a free action, as in the case of character X whose partner is using a Penetrative technique against her. If character X does not actively make a Penetrative-technique Prowess check in response, she still automatically makes an untrained check using that technique. Because this passive check is a free action, it does not impose any penalties against any active Prowess checks she may wish to make on the same turn.

Multiple Prowess Checks

It is possible to make multiple physical Prowess checks against the same partner or multiple partners, provided that the targets are all within easy reach and you have sufficient appendages for the task. You may make a number of Prowess checks equal to your Dexterity bonus + 1 without penalty. Each additional Prowess check incurs a cumulative -4 penalty to all your checks for that round.

When multiple Prowess checks are made against a character (regardless of their origin), only one check counts toward the Arousal DC; the rest are secondary checks that improve the first check if they are successful. The primary check is the roll made for whichever technique is most appropriate for reaching the target arousal level; if more than one technique is equally appropriate, the best roll is used as the primary check. A secondary check adds +1 to the primary roll if it succeeds the DC to maintain the character's current Arousal level; it adds +2 if it succeeds the DC to raise the character's Arousal to any higher level.

Solo Sex

Characters are considered proficient for all techniques they can reasonably use on themselves. Such checks count towards the limit on the number of Prowess checks per round a character can make.

Techniques

Whenever you make a Prowess check, you are using a technique on your partner to increase his or her level of arousal. Individual techniques are organized into categories at two levels. The major categories are Physical techniques and Mental techniques, which you use to increase your partner's physical arousal and mental arousal, respectively.

The Physical and Mental categories are further divided into groups of similar techniques, such as Dirty Talk or Erotic Dance (both of which are technique groups in the Mental category). Within each group are many individual techniques of the same basic type: the Erotic Dance group, for example, includes such dance-based techniques as striptease, lapdance, and pole dancing.

As your partner's level of arousal changes, some Physical techniques become more effective than others.
MAKING PROWESS CHECKS A Prowess skill check is used to raise the subject to a higher level of arousal using one or more sensual techniques. The following sections describe the progression of arousal levels, the order in which Prowess checks are made and resolved, the different techniques available, and special cases such as passive Prowess checks and multiple Prowess checks. Raising Arousal Levels Physical arousal increases according to the following progression: None --> Aroused --> Peaked --> Climaxed Mental arousal increases according to the following progression: None --> Horny --> Lustful --> Delirious There are fixed DCs to raise male and female subjects from their current arousal level to the next level: DC 12 (subject is male) DC 15 (subject is female) A check that fails to meet the DC maintains the subject's arousal at its current level (except when the subject is Climaxed). A check result of less than 1 represents an interruptive mistake, and decreases the subject's arousal by one level. To increase a subject's arousal by two levels at once, the DC is double (DC 24/30), and to increase it by three levels at once, the DC is quadruple (DC 48/60). Thus, to raise a male subject's arousal from Aroused to Climaxed, a character must make either two successful Prowess checks at DC 12, or one successful check at DC 24. Note: Attempts to raise a subject's Mental arousal level above Horny are an exception. Special abilities or spells are required to do this; without them, successful Prowess checks against a Horny subject serve only to maintain the subject's Horny status. Resisting Arousal When a Prowess check succeeds the DC to increase a character's physical or mental Arousal level, that character is entitled to a Fortitude or Will save, respectively, to resist the effect. (An Unwilling character will attempt this save against all Prowess checks used on them, adding the Unwilling bonus to the result.) This save is only made against arousal resulting from mundane Prowess checks; a status resulting from spells or similar means has its save DC stated in the spell or ability description. The save DCs to resist the rise to different arousal levels are as follows: Rise to Aroused / Horny: DC 10 Rise to Peaked / Lustful: DC 15 Rise to Climaxed / Delirious: DC 20 Order of Play (Hard Focus) Under Hard Focus rules, Prowess checks are usually made each minute (ten rounds). Climax When a character becomes Climaxed, the duration of the climax in rounds must be determined. Sexual Fatigue Undergoing climax is exhausting both mentally and physically, and as such characters are limited to how long they can remain in this state. For both genders, each discrete Climax (as opposed to each individual round of Climax) does 1 point of temporary Wisdom damage as a result of mental fatigue. Physical fatigue is as follows: Male characters can sustain (2 + Con bonus) rounds of Climax before becoming Fatigued. Passive Prowess Checks In some cases, a character makes a Prowess check passively, as a free action, as in the case of character X whose partner is using a Penetrative technique against her. If character X does not actively make a Penetrative-technique Prowess check in response, she still automatically makes an untrained check using that technique. Because this passive check is a free action, it does not impose any penalties against any active Prowess checks she may wish to make on the same turn. Multiple Prowess Checks It is possible to make multiple physical Prowess checks against the same partner or multiple partners, provided that the targets are all within easy reach and you have sufficient appendages for the task. You may make a number of Prowess checks equal to your Dexterity bonus + 1 without penalty. Each additional Prowess check incurs a cumulative -4 penalty to all your checks for that round. Solo Sex Characters are considered proficient for all techniques they can reasonably use on themselves. Such checks count towards the limit on the number of Prowess checks per round a character can make. Techniques Whenever you make a Prowess check, you are using a technique on your partner to increase his or her level of arousal. Individual techniques are organized into categories at two levels. DSM: Domination, Submission A subject whose mental arousal is increased by this technique receives the kink modifiers associated with dom/sub for all additional Prowess checks in the same session. 5+ ranks in Intimidate gives a +2 synergy bonus to Domination; 5+ ranks in Sense Motive gives a +2 synergy bonus to Submission. Dirty Talk: Dirty/Seductive, Sweet/Poetic, Subtle/Innuendo 5+ ranks in Bluff gives a +2 synergy bonus. Erotic Dance: Lapdance, Poledance, Striptease If you incur a -4 penalty to your check, you can affect all viewers within 30ft. 5+ ranks in Perform (dance) gives a +2 synergy bonus. Proficiency For each rank you gain in the Prowess skill, you acquire proficiency in a single physical or mental technique of your choice. If you are proficient in a particular technique, you can apply some or all of your ranks in Prowess as a bonus to your Prowess check whenever you use that technique. Sex Tricks (Optional Rule) As an optional rule, you may allow a character to acquire one sex trick for each rank in the Prowess skill, in lieu of or in addition to the technique proficiency gained with that rank.
