From the look of it, 4e is going to try and make a playable game from levels 1-30, much as 3e tried to do for 1-20. But, are they still sticking with the idea that the campaign lasts only 1.5-2 years? If so, your character will bump almost every other session...yikes! And if you're getting abilities at every level, you won't have any chance to get used to the new ones before you have more new ones to pile on top of 'em! 
If there's someone at GenCon reading this and can ask this question of the WotC designer-type folks....please do.
While you're at it, if you could also ask whether the 4e game will still be designed around the 4-character party, that'd be great!
