Adventure database?

Theo R Cwithin

I cast "Baconstorm!"
Is there a database out there containing per-module information
to help a GM trying to flesh out a campaign? Something that allows queries on things like system (eg, 1e,2e,3e, etc), climate, terrain, main enemy types, BBEG type, etc.

I'm cobbling together a cheesy, clunky spreadsheet outlining such basic info for a number of the old 3.x WOTC freebies and others I have lying around. However, it occurred to me that someone(s) may already be doing this as a database.

Thanks!

I'd love to see that as well.

If there isn't one yet, is there much interest beyond the two of us in one? I've sketched out a web site/data schema to do this sort of thing, but it's just one among many potential web sites I've sketched out, so it hasn't gotten past design stages.

I've been kicking around an idea like this for some time, too. It would have lots of uses, and would make a nice community project if there was interest.

I suspect a lot of people would find very useful if it had an easy-to-use front end and accessed a non-trivial, high-quality dataset. (Yeah, that last bit's the hard bit!)

I'll search around a bit more to try to determine if something already exists. If not, maybe a proof-of-concept is in order...? :hmm: hmmmm..

Thats a fantastic resource, however I like the OP's idea for a kind of database of the details of the adventures.

Searchable and sortable by some of the contents and types of challenges.

At least that is what I think the OP meant.

Something that would directly help prep, maybe on the spur of the moment.

Yes, I was thinking something searchable, to help a DM locate pre-made adventures that meet certain criteria. For example, a few (natural language) queries might be:

[sblock]
"Show me published adventures....

... for levels 6-8 in a mountainous setting with lots of (orc or goblinoid) encounters, traps and a spell-caster humanoid BBEG." (because I desperately need something like this for tomorrow's session!)

... by (specific publisher) for low levels with lots of plant encounters." (because I own lots of this publisher's material... and my players enjoy gardening?)

... from 2e involving an escape scenario in a desert setting with an (outsider or elemental) BBEG." (because I can't remember the name of a module I ran 10 years ago).
[/sblock]
There are quite a few uses for this, if it's extensive. Though maybe this is a bit unrealistic?

Anyway, I've attached a simple-minded XLS containing a fair bit of info like this for many of the little free 3e adventures distributed at WOTC's website. This would make MUCH more sense as a database - but I did what I could. ;)

(BTW, this is pretty quick and dirty! Please forgive the incompleteness, inconsistencies, poor format and errors :o)

Alright, I'll dust off what I have and see if I can get something simple up and running in the next couple weeks if people are willing to help populate it then. I can always pretty it up later after we get a good amount of underlying data.
