Hyrellon listens carefully to Ferris' recollections, then replies, "Well, avoiding the Shadowrift is certainly sound advice. It is a dangerous place even for those who have lived their whole lives on its borders. But, telling keeping to the banks of the river as you head north, seems a deliberate attempt to lead you and your friends into danger. Dhakanmirr is wise, shrewd, and most certainly familiar with all of the local wildlife on this island. I cannot think of a reason he would have counseled both you, and perhaps the Dauntonians thusly except to deliberately put you in harm's way. Though, I have no idea why he would want to do this, when it is his people who asked for your help in the first place." The elderly cleric sighs, then continues, "If you suspect Dhakanmirr of some wrongdoing you must take great care, my son. The humans will not listen happily to accusations leveled against their leader, true or not. If he is guilty of any part of these heinous acts, you must bring them definitive proof of some sort." "I cannot counsel you as to the best course of action for seeking such proof. It may be that you will find it in some of the northern ruins or among Snarl's people. Or, it may be that you must return to the human camps, and conduct a covert investigation there." "Fizzenden, heed well the words of my student for they are wise!," says Hyrellon, gazing at the gnomish leader with a reproachful glare. "Yes, you're right my friend. To long we have suspected our neighbors to the east, when it seems the real trouble has been brewing on either side of us to the north and south," says Fizzenden, looking decidedly downcast. Then, following Alnar's gaze he looks up at the window, and gives a start. "Goodness! Will you look at the time? Well, adventurers it seems to be getting late, and I have a proposal for you. If you'll help me repair the damage to my door, I'll provide you with supper and a place to sleep for the night while you decide on the best course of action. Good people," he says, turning to the assembled gnomes in the great room, "You have nothing to fear from these travelers. You may return to your homes and rest off the days troubles." The gnomes begin to file out, some of them giving you solemn and respectful nods as they pass by.
