Adventure module layouts?

How does everyone prefer their adventure layouts to be?

I wish they would all have booklets glued into them or perforated so that you have a separate book for maps. (like WotC does with RttToEE and Dragon or Dungeon) That is SO much more convienient than flipping back and forth in the module for the pages you need. I would also like it if more publishers would just print the quick stat blocks of the creatures instead of making me keep my Monster Manual out all the time. Finally, rather than putting all of the important NPCs or monsters in the BACK of the book, put them in the adventure when they show up, or better yet, have them in the map booklet, or a separate one of their own.

I'm not a publisher, so I'm not sure how this affects the price of a book, but I just wanted to see how everyone else felt.

The Kingdoms of Kalamar module I got from Noah (which I still have to finish and review) has the maps on the inside covers, which is fine, but unfortunately, all of the NPCs are all the way in the back.

The most annoying thing has been with RttToEE, where I'd physically leave bookmarks all throughout the back appendix because flipping back and forth became so annoying.

Thanks for listening!

One of the cool things Necromancer Games has been doing is putting up the maps from their modules in PDF format for download from their site (password protected).

Admitedity this started as errata for some mistakes in the maps, but I *think* the fans on their site have got Orcus talked into putting up maps for all the modules for download.

This makes it easy for the DM to print out whatever maps they use. Plus you can scale them up for battle maps with a little tweaking.

I personally like to keep my modules intact. I learned years ago how to use a xerox machine -- a skill that still pays off to this day. However, with WotC's attempts to use funky grayscales and color maps, theirs just don't copy very well.

I'd suggest you track down a local kinkos and keep your books in shape.

I would love to have module maps that are downloadable. What I'd REALLY like is to have Player Maps that don't need to be altered... and some of the maps are so detailed (or in color), that printing them is difficult.

Chris

We do this, so far both of our products have maps and player handouts (if any) available for download in our "Vault" section of our site.
