This is a great idea. I have a list of these in my MyInfo file, which includes some from the DMG so I apologize if I repeat some.
Also you might want to look at the
Harn encounters if you haven't yet-- they are longer than a sentence or two but quite handy.
Here are a few I've got, with the disclaimer that they are from a variety of sources so if you want credit for any, go ahead and claim it.
- Among their treasure, the PCs find a deed to a plot of land.
- A criminal on death row manages to escape and the PCs are hired to hunt him down.
- A noblewoman hires the PCs to find her betrothed, but when they find him they learn that he actually ran away from the marriage for a good reason.
-The PCs overhear the complaints ofa priest whose petition to build a temple has been turned down.
- A local election is coming up and some of the candidates have been threatened or attacked.
-A local merchant suspects that a rash of recent orc-raids may have had the help of an insider.
- The A-Team plot: a local merchant is being muscled out of his business and hires the PCs to help him.
- A duel is scheduled, but one of the competitors fears his opponent intends to cheat.
- A small river, essential to a certain community, has been dammed aways upstream by others.
