Adventure Recommendation Request

Khaalis

Adventurer
Hello All.

I am looking for a few recommendations for a 1st level adventure. Here is the setting and requirements of the request:

* 2 Experienced RPGers and experienced DM introducing 3 new RPGers to 4E (2 of those have played 3.5E once the other has never played).

* Starting at 1st level for ease of learning

* Can be played in approximately a total of about 12-14 hours of game session time.

Obviously KotS is not a good option due to the play time. Also, I don't want to use Paizo's Hollow's Last Hope / Crown of the Kobold King as 3 of the 5 have already played this (its the one 3.5 game that the 2 new players ran through).

I am open to doing some conversion of a good 3X scenario as well.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Including making characters? Can it be less than 12 hours?

There's a simple dungeon crawl in the DMG called Kobold Hall (page 210) that is quite short, so you could make characters and run newbies through it in under 12 hours.
If the characters are made before hand then it's probably too short.

Characters creation will all be done prior to sitting down to actually have the game. The game itself will be done over a long weekend broken down into something like this: 3-4 hours Friday, 6-8 hours Saturday, 3-4 hours Sunday.

Aye. I looked at this and even tried to think of ways to expand on it, but its simply too short and not really enough plot to run with for that much time, short of really rewriting it and very likely running it to a period far too long. I'd also like to avoid something that is purely a dungeon crawl. I'd like to get some "town-based" and "wilderness" adventure in as well.

Try Kobold Hall from the DMG, it is simple, has traps, hazards and monsters..

and an climaxic battle with an dragon..

Just simply let kobolds raid the tavern the players are in, make them chase to kobold hall..

do kobold hall and then just start KotS, doesnt matter if they can't finish it.. now you have an starting point for next time..

Unfortunately this is highly unlikely. This is a game weekend specifically to get a few friends exposure to the game to see if they like it. It involves 3 of us driving 5 hours to the other 3 for a long weekend, so I highly doubt we'll do this kind of thing very often, which is why I'd like to run something I can wrap up fairly easily.
