They may be peasants pressed into brigand duty, or they may not, but the fact remains that they had wanted to harm us. To clean or otherwise help them at this time might make them believe they have been forgiven, to an extent at least, which we have not. Should they give us enough information to find the true whoresons, we might reconsider. An addition, these magics are more draining than you might expect.
