The night brought cacophony. Thousands of insects could be heard from the canopy and in the undergrowth of the jungle. Nocturnal birds squacked and sang their evening vespers. Worse still, however, were the sounds whose sources were unidentifiable, even by the most woodwise of the party. A slick rattling could be heard from time to time. Nezrak and Ogrin's watch was uninterrupted, though not uneventful. Ogrin had found that the tree he chose to climb up was inhabited by a few hairy caterpillars. He scratched his new red rashes in his sleep. Nezrak, near the fire, was assaulted by an army of flying irritations bent on lemming-like curiousity to the flame. They fell upon the elf when they were not circling the campfire. *********** The noise finally faded somewhat at midnight, at the start of Scun's and Rasereit's watch. The new watchmen needed no fire, so they were free to stay away from the flame if they wished. And the flitting insects made them wish so. With their darkvision, they viewed the environs bereft of color. The legacy of the world below had given them a lightless sight. They used this gift to scan the perimiter beyond the light's edge. Rasereit's war ax was lay right beside him for easy drawing... as did Scun's spear. For all their abilities in the dark though, neither saw the coming of their new foe. Rasereit slapped his neck with a gloved hand. Flies, thought the dwarf off handedly. When he looked at his palm however, he found that t'was not a flying thing that had crushed. It was a spider only a little smaller than his hand. That was when They began to fall like rain from above. Surprise Round 15- Spider Swarms Hundreds of arachnids rained upon the campsite. A majority of them dropped upon Scun and Rasereit. They crawled under clothing and bit with poisoned fangs. Rasereit takes 2 damage. He is nauseated (move action only) for one round. Scun takes 5 damage. He takes 1 point of strength damage from Spider Poison. Round 1: 19- Scun 15- Spider Swarms 14- Rasereit
