[QUOTE="nimisgod, post: 1773891, member: 10283"] The hours passed uneventfully for the party from Orussus. The light of the sun brightened into the light of early morning and eventually early afternoon. Better rested than they were in the early morning, they continued their trek in the afternoon. As they journeyed inward, some two hours later, the terrain around them began to change. The trees and vegetation receded into a desolate marshland. Their footfalls sunk into the soft ground beneath them. Pools of stagnant water gave off a fetid odor and rippled with unseen movement. On occasion, the sticky mud threatened to steal away their footware. Ogrin had to help Mona out of a few such problems. The halfling cleric of Hyrag gave her appreciation with kind words and a smile. Further hindering the intrepid adventurers was a thin mist that pervaded the area. Strange sounds echoed here and there. Swamp lights winked out of existence as the sun disappeared from view. The rain continued to fall, remaining at an annoying but chilly drizzle. It was when dusk began to set in that the dying light of the sun outlined large, jutting stone formations in the mist. Scun felt a slight tingle, his divine connection with Mongrel flickering ever so slightly. Nezrak's own elven heritage gave him a sign as well of the fell powers that befell this place. The wizard and cleric felt a subtle spiritual foulness in the atmosphere. At a glance, Mona seemed ignorant of this, though she did look torn with relief and apprehension at the sight of these formations. Closer inspection revealed that these stone formations were large pieces of rubble. Rasereit's natural affinity with stone told him that these were once part of a well worked and ornate structure, his dwarf senses detecting the faded lines of craftsmanship. Their pace slowed as they reached the burnt out husk of what was once the base portion of a tower. A cracked stone set of stairs led downwards to a flooded floor. A glance from keen eyed Rillian told him that these stairs were particularly treacherous from the amount of humidity in the area. They were not at all the shade that grey stone was supposed to be.
