That's the way things work down here - show that you're tougher than the next guy and you'll get some respect, but only until somebody tougher than you shows up.  When it comes to the last adventuring party, it takes a while to make yourself understood, and when you do, the bartender seems genuinely confused that you would be asking her about them.
