Advice on PC Publishing

Crusty Older DM

First Post
I would be grateful for any advice on what computer programs I should use for publishing d20 material via the Internet. This would include programs for Web site development as well as formatting documents for download/printing (presumably in Adobe). Also, any advice on hosting and security would be helpful.

I don't have any experience with getting pieces directly to the public via the Web, although I have done a good amount of old-fashioned type-setting in the days before everyone and their grandmother was on the Internet. Paradoxically, I do have a background in computer science, but I have not kept up with the technology. C was a sexy brand-new language (at least outside of the military) when I last wrote any code.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

If your familiar with type setting, your probably familiar with Quark. Although expensive, if you know how it works, it's an advantage that is worth a lot of money. There is/are plugins that allow you to publish directly to pdf. I think it's even possible to pubklish directly for the web (html).

I use InDesign 2.0 for layout and printing to PDF, Photoshop for working on covers and other graphics, Macromedia Dreamweaver for web design and ReadyHosting for a web host (it's pretty afforable and gives you lots of hard drive space). To add in e-features after layout you should also have the full version of Acrobat.
