AEG Magic?

Undead American

First Post
I keep seeing this product on the shelf.

It says, "Undead American you sexy beast! Take me home tonight. You know you need to."

My question is, she's knocking should I answer?

I just picked it up yesterday. Although I haven't examined it in depth, there's a lot in there that I like, at least flavor-wise. They present 14 different variations of magic, each with a full 20-level alternate core class presented. I hate the generic wizard, and the specialist wizards aren't much better. This is how I wish WotC had handled arcane spell casters from the start. In my home brew, I may consider removing the wizard all together in favor of these classes. I especially like the fact that they are core classes, not prestige ones.

They also present a spell point system, which is basically an adaptation of the psionic rules to magic. They place some sensible limitations on it to make it balanced, though it complicates things a bit. There are also new feats, monster templates, spells, items, and a set of free form spell casting rules.

So far, I think it's pretty cool.

I'm still not to sure about it. I really liked Mercenaries and had hoped that this would be the same quality and cool factor. I'm still reading it but it hasn't lived up to my expectations.

In all honesty i haven't been to inspired by any of the second party Tomes of Magic Lore other than the two Relics and Rituals volumes... those are very useful.

Hope I helped.

Y'know, I almost bought this the other day, but as I held it in my hands frowning at it (a little ritual I go through with every d20 purchase I consider), I realized that I all ready have far more magic supplements than I'm ever going to use. Another count against it for me is that I understand that it provides an alternate casting system and core classes. I like some of the alternate magic systems I've seen, but it's hard to get a group of players to willingly give up a system they're all ready familiar with - especially if it means another book they have to buy to fully use the system. So, I'm probably going to give this one a pass, although I've heard good things about it.

I like this proiduct. It gives some great new options for arcane casters. Many of them are core cvlasses, but I think they work as them. There are some prestege classes and new feats and spells.

As far as comparing it to othe rmagic oriented books, only Occult lore is a fair comparison. This is not a book like Relics and Rituals. It is not full of new spell and magical items.
