AEG Mercenaries

Has anyone got a chance to look at AEG's huge Mercenaries book? It sounds like a great idea, but its pricy (canadian dollars) and I want to know more about what the book includes and what some people's perceptions on it are.

AEG has been good to me product-wise, so I suspect this book is probably pretty cool.

It's a fairly decent book from what I have read so far. The classes are well done, though much like Swashbuckling Adventures, I feel there is too much overlap.

I feel the topic of mercenaries is pretty darned close to the D&D core. I would recommend this book in the same vein that you might buy the KoK PG for -- additional material that does not stray far from the D&D/d20 mainstream. (In fact, I think it is better executed than the KoK PG.)

If you are looking for anything out there or drastically different, this might not be the book for you.

I haven't bought it yet, but I'm going to. I've read pieces of it in the gameing store and it looks and reads well. Quality wise it looks the best of their one word products. It might even rank upo with their hardbacks, hard to say at the moment.

I got this book and all I can say is wow. It is by far one of their best products and if you want more diversity in your games, or if you ever want to run a mercenary campaign, this is THE book to get.

What are some of the highlights?

lots...

New core class variants...a new ranger that makes more sense...a couple of fighter/rogue wizard combinations, a tattoo mage, a scout class, etc.

New feats

complete chapters and examples of different kinds of mercenary groups and a complete chapter on a quick make for a mercenary. Kinda like the quick npc design in the DMG.

Over 20 prestige classes

New monsters that are mostly in the wild, really cool.

The new core classes...oh, already said that. Really awesome.

Plenty of story hooks to keep a mercenary campaign going for a very long time.

If you want to run a campagin like this, buy this boook.

One of the things I'm wondering while looking over the book is why its called mercenaries. It should be called "Stuff" or something. Lots or reprinted material too.

one of their goals, I think, is to get all the good stuff from their various books into one, and then also create some new stuff and center it all around one theme.

They reprinted some stuff, but for the most part it really wasn't much. I'm impressed by this book. I think it has a lot of good ideas for any of the many combat type classes. THis is a huge improvement over their other one word books. This is very organized and well written. Good job AEG.
