Scary, huh? My party (small party, at the time had Wiz and Drd), was hired to clear out a mine when the miners encountered some monsters popping up (we had impressed some people by taking down a Balor by ourselves in a gladiatorial arena). We had a Clr and Ftr go with us for some extra beef, so the make-up is this: Drd 19 (focus on fighting w/ Warshaper, Nature's Warrior) Wiz 18 (Elemental Savant [Elec], Archmage, I7FV) Frt 15 (nothing special, B.Sword and shield) Clr 15 (important feats: Spell Penetration & Greater, Reach Spell, Divine Metamagic [Reach Spell]) So we're clearing out this dung-- uh, mine, when we open the last room. There's a glint of gold at the end. Before the glint of gold is a big creature. I roll K(Nature)... Tarrasque. Great. Whoopee. We're dead. Nono, wait, it's sleeping. ... And we still can't take it, we're not nearly prepared for this sort of battle (I wanted a Silence cast so we could take the gold and coup de grace, but whatever). We end up leaving so we can actually prepare for this thing. Well, we're doing research on Tarrasques (101 Fun Facts About Tarrasques by Mordenkainen Smith), and we're talking people to get information. Well, one of the people we ask is the guy in charge of the nation we happen to be visiting. Who is a fan of games. CN sort of guy, tending towards E. He gets crazy ideas to 'test' people. So, when he hears there's a Tarrasque sleeping in his land, he's goes, "Great! Cool! I'm going to let it rampage and it'll be a game to see who can take it down!" ... :uhoh: Yeah. Nut job. So we have to kill this thing now. Problem is this is a relatively low magic game. Magic items are tough to come by. I can't even get a +6 Wis item as a Drd 19. But, we can use any book we want.
