It is somebody suspected to be an agent for a foreign, hostile power. Now, the ship's captain could be working on a need-to-know base, and not be fully aware of all of this. But it seems unlikely that high-level New Republic executives would not be aware of this, or at least be briefed by Mon Mothma once the issue is being discussed. The senators arguments are not entirely unreasonable in a vacuum, what bothers me is they are at odd with previous actions. After all, transporting a prisoner requires little more than a shuttle, maybe few fighter escort. Instead, the New Republic assigned a major ship to it, resulting in significant casualties and the loss of that ship ("They took out an entire security detail and scuttled one of our new starships"). In our world there would be huge public outrage if this happened. What does it matter that the imperial fleet is scattered when you have proof that imperials have infiltrated the administration, and just a couple of them can seriously cripple a major military vessel? That should be concerning. Resources are limited, so maybe they cannot afford to devote a large fleet detachment, but a corvette and half a dozen fighters? It would still be significantly less than the Vesper.</blockquote>
