[imager]http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/cPJroj1sca3uPriH735fTQ/m[/imager]Iann Robinson has written an interesting blog entry called "I can't stand Harry Knowles," which you can read here.

Snippet:
"Knowles is self-serving and egocentric to a point where it’s unbearable. Few things on the site don’t revolve around Harry’s and he attacks things with his smug cooler-than-you attitude. For example, when Heath Ledger passed away Knowles’s write up on his site centered around the first time he “met him” and his “opinion of him when we met”, it was all about how Knowles knew Ledger and it just seemed in really bad taste. Most of what he writes is very self aggrandizing and meant to demonstrate to the readers that he’s plugged into the 'A scene' in Tinsel Town."

Since this forum is about the media, I thought it would be appropriate to post it here -- ironically this post is about the media itself (Harry).

I've hated Harry Knowles for years now, so it was a very refreshing read. I love the Aint It Cool News content... well, I used too. These days I cannot stand going to that site -- the web design is very user-unfriendly, the content is highly biased, and Harry is a total sellout / moron.

Most of the media and most people in the media are every inch as self-serving as Knowles. The fat guy simply wears it on his sleeve, it is his schtick and as such it seems to work well enough as it has made him a C-List celebrity and a boat load of money. The definition of a real media professional seems to be that they manage to make their self interest your self interest, at the expense of your actual self-interest. But that is business and politics as well.

However, I’ve always found the site to be poorly designed and hard to navigate.

I have found Harry a useful barometer of movies that I don't like.

I do like AICN in general, especially since it's not just him. In particular, I've found that Moriarty's tastes in movies is close to my own. The site could be designed a LOT better, though.

I remember when Knowles appeared on some talk show years ago and ripped apart the live-action Grinch movie. He said Ron Howard wasn't good enough to direct anything more than TV, he criticized the acting, script, etc.. Then he was invited to a studio party and now he loves the film!

I don't bother with his site anymore.

I stopped reading anything on the site about a week after I first learned about it, many years ago. Didn't care for Harry or his style, so have never felt drawn back. The guy is definitely self-aggrandizing to a very painful degree.

Harry blows.

The rest of the site is a mixed bag. I'm not a huge fan of the guy that does the TV part, mostly because he doesn't post any real scoops.

I really like the Comics group though, and several of the other movie staff are okay.

Add me to the group that thinks the site badly needs a redesign.

Moriarty's just as much a hypocrite as Harry in my view. For those not in the know, I refer to an incident way back when Harry praised to high heavens a screenplay called Amusements by a up an coming screenwriter named Drew Mcweeny. Course, Harry conveniently forgot to mention that Drew Mcweeny was Moriarty's real name. But what's a little nepotism between friends? :)

The only thing I liked about the site is his monthly DVD picks. He would post the list of newly released obscure Z-movies or foriegn flicks that I would often add to my netflix.com list.

I haven't been to the site in a couple of years, so I don't know if he still does this or not.
