Aid Another With Spells?

the Jester

Legend
Is it possible, by the RAW, to use the aid another action when casting a spell to increase the DC?

For instance, there's a sorcerer and a psion in the group, both of whom know suggestion. If they both cast it at the same enemy, suggesting the same thing at the same time (via readied actions or synchronizing initiatives or whatever), can they force one save with a +2 DC instead of two saves?

Does it make a difference if they are two sorcerers (vs. a psion and a sorc)?

If the RAW doesn't allow this, what do you think of it as a house rule?

I can imagine two pc spellcasters combining to hold or charm someone, for instance.

You can't do it by RAW, but I suppose it sounds okay as a house rule. I've never tried it, but using up two spells and two caster for one opponent for only a +2 DC doesn't seem unreasonable.

Seems reasonable, but you're probably better off just casting 2 spells. Better chance of failing the DC on 2 tries compaired to a +2 DC on one attempt (most of the time).

Perhaps you can put it as a houserule and develop some type of ritual errata. Dont forget to make sure the npcs do the same thing.

Oh, hell, npcs is how the pcs would prolly find out it's possible... ;)

Well, to be honest for a second, though, I'm actually considering this as part of a 'high-magic' ruleset tweak.

Yup, good house-rule call, I can imagin multiple casters in a circle chanting away....

I wouldn't allow it with charm or dominance as that makes the target friend with the caster, the caster being two different people, where as the suggestion (from the suggestion spell) is the same

Not a house rule really. There's a metamagic feat (Cooperative Spell) in CA that does this. You both need the feat, but it's a +0 level metamagic, so there's no reason not to have all spells prepared that way.

I think this is already covered By the Metamagic feat,Cooperative Spell, but no one takes that except to get into that one spell sharing PrC,cause it aint worth a feat.

Well, the problem I have with Cooperative Spell is that it doesn't matter if you take it- you need to persuade your pal to take it too!

Also- if you've prepared a spell as a cooperative spell, can you even cast it without another caster doing the same? Seems potentially like a straitjacket to me.
