Can't spell fantasy without ... tas... no that wasn't the saying.
Maybe I dreamt that.

Anyhow, this is my site for art. At the moment it's going through some crappy flash stage, so sorry about that...

I'll link up some art... hopefully this is similar to ubb.

Right now I'm trying to drift away from my old anime style. Been drawing for roughly 10 years this way (not anime, that was a brief stint of boredom)

Anyhow, bash all you want, it's not professional or anything. Just a hobby / would-be-job. And now to make use of smileys... :o

I can definitly see the Anime influence. It's not bad at all, you have to like the anime style, but it's not bad at all.

The colored piece shows that it was done with a software. That is a problem I have with a lot of digital coloring, the «technique» shows alot. It just doesn't feel right to me somehow. Don't get me wrong, some stuff out there is truely amazing (see the thread Joe's Ilustrations to see what I mean), unfortunately the armor, the weapons and the background do not feel natural to me. I love the fire and the object lying on the floor beside the warrior, though. The coloring seems better to me.

Anyhow, keep up the good work,

Guillaume

No offense taken Guill. The anime influence isn't a huge problem to me, because before i drew anime "officially" everyone said I drew rather cartoony (sorta like disney stuff), and I'm really going for more of a western comic-book style anyhow.

Good, because none was ment. I like anime, it is just not my favorite fantasy illustration medium.;)

Keep it up, I'd love to see more.

"Anime style". There's more than one anime style, y'know! Hiyayo Miazaki and Rumiko Takahashi are worlds apart, but both are undisputably anime.

Anyways, I can tell you're learning digital coloring, and if you keep at it, it will pretty much teach itself. I don't have THAT big a problem with it anyways. A couple of little problems with the top pic, though. 1.) The perspective in the room seems a little skewed. The bricks in the wall go one way, while the ceiling goes somewhere else entirely. Of course it's possible (and likely considering the angle of the ceiling) that the ceiling slopes sharply at an angle, but if that's the case, you might want to put in some more hints about that somehow, like a chadelier hanging at an angle or something. 2.) There's a whole lot of nothing going on in the top of the picture. That's not always bad, but it doesn't suit an action picture so well.

I like the second pic. A quick sketch, but you show the character's... well... character well.

Kilmore - Agreed. Actually the perspective was this huge debacle as I was unable to keep certain guides straight in the program... it shouldn't have been sent to press (so to speak) but it looked just feasibly askew. Some buildings have arched ceilings, and thats' how I'm gonna ride that baby out.

Yeah the anime thing as a whole is annoying to me at this point. I mean I've seen anime where they had friggin dots for eyes. It's all relative.

Anyhow, thanks for comments. OH yeah and as for that big lotta nothin going on at the top - I know. I was getting to more of a classic frame style, where the character occupies about a third or ninth of the shot... Some paintings that I forget reflect this. Though in those paintings, the scenery is MUCH nicer than in this one .. oops. :(

Hey, you caught me while I was doing a run of reviews.

First off, it looks like you're doing your characters quick and simple (I know that the looks can be decieving). With that considered, they're looking good.

Interesting castle design. Never quite seen a big drum tower in the middle so prominent, and I'm not sure how it would structurally hold up, but it does make sense with flying varmints all around to build castles with ack-ack platforms.

Montages are more difficult to make than they may seem (just put a bunch of stuff together in a picture!... not quite), and it looks like you recognize that, but you're still having a problem with it. With the castle and the phoenix(?) right at the end of the picture, it just becomes a big visual punctuation point to me.

Clyde Caldwell does the best montages as far as I'm concerned. True, some of his characters look stuffed and mounted, but he's still worthy of study. Especially for montages.
